Oil In Big Macs or Coffee or Water

April 10, 2010

Oil in Big Macs: Decade Edition |

Clicking the link will compare the price of oil to the price of big macs. This site uses big macs to represent a basket of agricultural products. Wheat, beef, pickles, onions and such. Kind of an interesting idea if you think about it. What would you use to compare the price of oil to maybe a tall latte or a bottles of water. I think it’s just a different way of looking at a product that we all use and seeing it represented instead of oh it’s just gas, as something else more tangible to us.

Okay so what if you looked at it differently such as well if i didn’t buy this many gallons of gas compared to last year i could afford that new iPhone though that has continuing costs or say that trip to Hawaii or whatever the thing you want is just kind of trick to make you drive less thus saving more for a certain goal. Maybe that goal could be paying off your debt as so many of us need to do that. Not as fun as going to Hawaii but it creates satisfaction to know that you paid that debt off and you no longer have to pay all those fees and interest then maybe you can afford to pay cash for that trip to Hawaii or afford a few more of those tall lattes or maybe maxing out your Roth this year.
