Don’t Follow Texas Lead in Policing Oil Companies

April 17, 2010

Exxon’s Oozing Texas Oil Pits Haunt Residents as XTO Deal Nears – Bloomberg.com.

As California looks to tax the oil that companies pump out of the ground it should look at the state of Texas and all of the problems that the oil companies have left behind. If we go this route we need to make sure that our environmental laws are followed, and not leave an agency such as the railroad commission in Texas in charge of being the watchdog on these companies as it was a set up to serve.

In 2008 Exxon paid 890 billion dollars to the state of Texas in the form of taxes and royalties. As this activity generates this much tax we as Californians must make sure that our environmental laws are followed because it will be too easy for the people in Sacramento to turn a blind eye to the goose that’s laying the golden egg especially with our current budget crisis annually.                                                                                                                                                                           alt=Add to FacebookAdd to DiggAdd to Del.icio.usAdd to StumbleuponAdd to RedditAdd to BlinklistAdd to TwitterAdd to TechnoratiAdd to Yahoo BuzzAdd to Newsvine
