Deepwater Horizon Accident Could Happen Here

April 28, 2010

The explosion on the Deepwater Horizon offshore rig in the Gulf of Mexico has caused an environmental disaster for the entire gulf coast. The federal government has recently opened up new areas to offshore exploration, as well as our own CA governor has opened up our own waters to exploration. I believe we should look at this accident and take it as an opportunity to consider if we really need offshore rigs and the possibility of environmental damage that comes with it. But what about the money the oil will bring? My question to that is, do tourists come to California to see oil soaked beaches. In California we already pay the highest gas prices in the land will drilling off our coast lower our costs per gallon or make the oil companies richer. Not that I’m against companies making money but I don”t think they will pass those savings on to you and me.

  1. It sounds like you’re creating problems yourself by trying to solve this issue instead of looking at why their is a problem in the first place.

    • Okay I think I see your point the reason their is a problem in a first place is the world and the US in particular uses too much oil. However, seeing that point I also think we should take this opportunity to look and decide if we really want to drill off our coast or continue to buy expensive oil produced elsewhere, namely the middle east, Texas, Canada, Africa, etc.

  2. Hi there, I found your blog via Google while searching for first aid for a heart attack and your post looks very interesting for me.
