October Is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October 9, 2010

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. So please do  your part to support breast cancer awareness in your family, community, or group of friends on Facebook whatever it is. I think that may be more effective in the core mission of solving breast cancer than buying a bunch of pinkwashed products from corporate america. If you have the funds make a direct donation to a breast cancer charity. Or even donate your long hair to make wigs for cancer patients, you would look cute with short hair and it will grow out again anyway. So what is pinkwashing? Well, when a company puts the breast cancer awareness logo on their product and packages it in pink you think that some money from every item purchased goes to the charity. Then you read the fine print and find that yes some money from every purchase goes to the charity only to a specified amount say two hundred fifty dollars or one thousand dollars or whatever. But, the company puts  pink on millions of packages and cans and products or what have you to make people keep choosing it even after they have reached the threshold of the two hundred fifty dollars or what have you. Let me know what you think in the comments.
